Find inspiration and support in our weekly writing group this fall!
Community support and encouragement to write your amazing true story
Writing alone can be discouraging and frustrating. You may wonder, why write my most important stories if no one may ever hear or read them? But releasing your work into the world may feel terrifyingly too early.
A supportive writing community can change everything.
One of the best parts of my memoir writing class earlier this summer was the discussion group. So good and worthwhile, that I’m offering it as a stand-alone weekly group.
In the group, we can discuss:
How to write about emotions (even if you can’t remember what you were feeling)
Is your idea interesting to readers? (Yes!!)
Why writing is scary and what we can do about that
What it’s like to write from a marginalized perspective
What publications would be good to pitch
And much more!!
I will facilitate the weekly online group on Google Meet with thoughtful discussion prompts intended to dig deep into writing challenges and allow us to share support and inspiration with each other.
We won’t review pieces on the call, nor will we have quiet time for writing together (I can recommend other groups that do these activities). This will be a time for chatting, learning, and receiving general feedback and support on whatever may be holding you back. We’ll leave with increased motivation and inspiration, unlocking the work you are hoping to get started on.
We’ll form a supportive, encouraging writing community so you don’t have to write those hard pieces alone.
Testimonials from writers who took the class which inspired the discussion group:
Asmita says her favorite parts were “discussing emotions and how to write about them,” and “connecting with amazing humans!”
Sxd says, “I was glad to learn from other people about what worked for them in their writing and appreciated feedback from the instructor on how to make my pieces more effective. I enjoyed the small class size, the interactive nature of the group and the overall feedback by the teacher.”
Robin says,
As an established writer with a steady following I know that I'm already creating content that's liked. This class took my own expectations of my work to a higher level. It really helped me gain new perspectives on how to add emotion and portray feelings in a way that's relatable for my audience.
Being in a live meeting space with other creators was also very valuable. I felt seen in those common struggles a lot of us faced together.
Rey's guidance, both in the written/video class content, in the "classroom" discussions with us, and in their feedback on my assignments was thoughtful, sensitive to the varied needs of the group, and pushed me to work harder to write a better essay. I can't express enough gratitude for them in this class!
Charlie says, “Sign up for this. Working with Rey is worth it.”
