Holidays shouldn't have a gender, but somehow, they do. Many people, especially if they are LGBTQ+, dread attending family holiday events. If this resonates, you are not alone. I’ll share some tips for how to survive the holidays with family if you’re LGBTQ+ in this post.
This is so great! I usually try to post something for folks still struggling sigh family every year around this time but I never thought of adding ally tips, that’s brilliant and important. It’s my cishet siblings that did the best by me when I first came out! Thanks for this.
My favorite tip is "decide if you even want to go." It took me so many years to have the courage to opt out in this way. We have such a twisted sense of obligation around family, and this was very freeing to realize.
Thanks, I'm glad that resonates with you. It does feel like such an obligation for many people and it's not simple to not go. I'm glad you were able to opt out.
This is a great list! I so wish I had it back in the day. And I'm happy for the people who can benefit from it now that they have your wisdom supporting them!
Love these tips...and that you included the tips for allies too! Things are so much easier when you have some good support.
Thanks very much! Absolutely, support is so important!

Thanks so much, Kelli! I am glad you liked the post, that means a lot to me. That's great your siblings were there for you when you came out.
Struggling with not struggling sigh. Although that kind of makes sense too

Thanks so much, LC! Hey, I wish I knew about this when I was younger also. I really appreciate your kind words.
